After a long winter, groundskeepers rush to thaw ballparks out for opening day

Groundskeepers all over baseball are scrambling to help their ballparks recover from months of snow and freezing temperatures.

The Chicago White Sox are trying to deal with a deep frost, and the Detroit Tigers are re-sodding their entire field. Both those teams are scheduled to play at home on March 31, when the regular season begins in earnest with 13 games.

The clock is ticking.

Most teams say the thawing efforts are running on schedule.
